Episode 2
We’ve never really seen Kel interact with the rest of the tribe. The only ones I can remember were...none. There were no scenes whatsoever where we saw see him goof off with the tribe. Let’s see goofing off/slacking off scenes: mostly the “family pool” and the shelter (yep, they sure did a lot of slacking off). No Kel. He was either fishing or foraging for food, which is a very good thing and I don’t know why he got ostracized for that. It wasn’t exactly pulling off a Sean or a Dirk (think Superpole 2000, fishing and catching none) as most people put it. In the first Survivor, the duo weren’t the only ones looking for food. Most of the tribe (Tagi) were looking for food, so they (like Sue) can criticize Sean and Dirk regarding their unsuccessful fishing. Kel, on the other hand, was the ONLY one that was fishing and looking for food. So they--no wait--Colby had no right to say that Kel “couldn’t fish rubber ducky out of the tub.” Ingrate.
Reward challenge we can see that Kel has made a great contribution for this challenge physically. He was the one who unhooked the crate. Ogakor won. T’was predictable for Rodger was not a good swimmer. At the end of the challenge, it was noticeable that Kel and Maralyn gave each other congratulatory kisses on the cheek. I thought that was sweet, and also, “Aha! Possible alliance?” Aside from the high fives, that was really the only scene that exhibited him having good relations with a tribe member. Even interaction between him and Tina (the supposed third member of Kel’s alliance) was never shown. So those were his two friends from the tribe: Tina and Mad Dog. The others never really got to know/didn’t want to get to know him, in my opinion.
The men probably thought Kel was a very big threat in the physical aspect. I guess that’s why they treated him coldly or acted somewhat antagonistic towards him. Kieth, Mitchell and Colby, I think were very insecure because they knew that Kel could contribute a lot to the tribe, hence they would lose points for that and increase the probability of them getting voted off. So they probably thought it would be better to boot off someone that would make them look bad and let members of equal capabilities (read: slackers) stay.
The women...hell where do I start? Okay, save the worst (read: Jerri) for last. Like with Tina, I never really saw Kel interact with Amber, whom is an enigma herself...I guess that’s it. She’s not even on the radar yet! I think she just went with the main consensus of the tribe that’s why she voted for Kel too. Mad Dog and Tina were deceived by the crafty beyotch that is Jerri. Kel agreed with both women that they would vote Jerri off. Jerri told Maralyn that Kel was going to vote her off that’s why Maralyn flip-flopped and turned the tables on Kel by voting him off. Jerri did the same with Tina and she did the same as Maralyn.
